Bryophaenocladius

Three kinds of Bryophaenocladius found in the country. Following pictures are the larva which was found in Lake Biwa, depth 100m. Other tow kinds were found in Yono river (Osaka pref）)and Ure river (Ａichi pref.).


median tooth wide, the form varies by the kinds.. lateral teeth 3 or 4.	Antenna 5 segments. Segment 2 longer than basal segment. Ring organ of basal segment large.	Posterior parapod short and slightly bifid Claws : samll , brown 10 or more Anal tubules 2 pairs , backwards of posterrior parapod.
		・Body length about 5mm. Living body color yellowish 　brown. ・Eye spot 1 pair. ・Antenne : segment 3～５　very short, segment 2 longer than basal segment. ・Inner teeth of mandible 3. ・ＳⅠ short and simple.or bifid. ＳⅡsimple or bifid and big. ・Pecten epipharyngis consisting 3 scales. ・Pramandible with 3 teeth. ・Claws of posterior parapod present or absent.

Smittia

This larva found on the shore of Lake Shikotu , water depth of 50cm..


Median tooth large , lateral teeth 5, outer 2 teeth small.	Antenna with 4 segments. segment 2 longer than basal tooth, segment 3～４ very short. 　Blade long but not longer than flagellum. Lauterborn organ small.	Posterior parapod slightly separate. Anal tubules weak. Anal seta absent.
	Small size larva, Body length about 4mm. Living body color light green.. Eye spot 1 pair. １：antenna ２：mentum ３：Mandible: lateral teeth 3 . seta subdentalis short ４：ＳⅠ: long 5 teeth of comb ＳⅡ: long and simple 　　Pecten epipharyngis : long 3 scales. Premandible with 2 apical teeth. ５：maxilla ６：Anal tubules 2 pairs :hemisphere Posterior parapod reduced, with simple 10 or more claws

Georthocladius

Only Minase river( Omonogawa river Akita pref.) in the country I caught this larva.


Median tooth slightly divided or 1 domed median tooth and 5 pairs of lateral teeth. Inner teeth of mandible 3	Antenna 5 segments, antennal ratio 1.2. Blade beyond terminal segment. Accessory blade slightly long.	Procercus wide ,fan shape projection with 2 pairs short setae.
		・Body length ５～６mm, Livimg body color light green. Without seta on abdominal segments. ・ＳⅠbig and simple ・ＳⅡthineand simple ・Pecten epipharyngis 3 long scales ・Premandible with 2 apical teeth ・Anal tubules with numerous annulations. ・Procercus absent but anal seta present. ・Posterior parapod reduced.

Gymnometriocnemus

This larva was found on the surface of rock in mountain stream of River Kohatigawa (Gifu pref.).


Mentum with 2 median teeth and 4 pairs lateral teeth. Ventromantal plate crescent shape under lateral teeth.	procercus absent, anal setae 1 pair each short 1 Posterior parapod and anal tubules capable of retraction into preanal segment. Parapod and anal segment at right angle to axis of body. Posterior parapod slightly separate, with simple claws or absent	With 5 segments, segment 2 longer than basal segment, segment 4 longer than segment 3. Blade as long as flagellum.
		Body length about 5 mm. ・Anterior parapod slightly separate, with 20 or more row of small splinters.（6μ). ・Inner teeth of mandible 3, Seta subdentalis and sata interna absent. ・ＳⅠsimple slightly broad, .ＳⅡsimple ,thin. ・Premandible divided into 3.

Camptocladius

I caught Camptocladius larvae at following three points; in cool and clear water in River Tenryuu (Shizuoka pref.), ,Lake Kirisimamiike and Lake Onneto, later 2 place pH 5.2～5.8 .
As for these three kinds , the form of mentum is different. Small size larva 2.5～3mm.


Mentum with broad median tooth and 4 pairs lateral teeth, Ventromental plate present distinctly under lateral teeth .		Posterior parapod and procercus absent. 2 pairs of anal tubules under segment 12.
		・Antenna very reduced ,with 3 segments, segment 2and 3 very short. Blade more than 3 times of length.of antenna.　・Inner teeth of mandible 3. ・SⅠ, SⅡ: bifid , SⅢ simple. ・Pecten epipharyngis consisting of 3 broad scales. ・Premandible with 3 teeth. ・Anterior parapod with numerous small thonies.

Pseudosmittia

Several kinds of larvae caught in the country. They inhabit widely in the country. They different distinctly by form of mentum and antenna..


Mediantooth with small projection. 4 pairs of lateral teeth present. Ventromental plate distinct.	Antenna not longer than 1/6 length of madible. 4 segments. Blade extending beyond flagellum, longer than 7 times of it.	Anal tubules low conical, 2 pairs. Posterior parapods weak, claws small , yellow in 10.. Procercus absent, anal seta 1.
		・Body length 3～5mm, median size.light greenish brown ～yellowish green. ・Antenna : blade beyond flagellum. ・Mandible; with 2～4 inner teeth. ・Both ＳⅠ,ＳⅡ bifid. Pecten epipharyngis simple 3 scales. Premandible divided into 2～３．・Posterior parapod short, wuth small. claws.

Antillocladius　（？）

2 kinds of larva of Antillocladius found in the country. As for antenna, SⅠand SⅡ,　Antillocladius has the same form with Pseudosmitia, but different distinctly about posterior parapod.
Body length 3～4mm, small size. Living body color light graysh green～greenish brown. Eye spot 1 pair.
River Akagawa (River Mogami ) , River Kawabe( Ituki village., Kumamoto pref.)


Posterior parapod well developed, with strong claws 10 or more. Procercus absent, but 2 short anal setae.	Median tooth wide ,slightly concave , 4 lateral teeth.	Antenna with 5 segments, 1/5 of mandible. Length of basal segment less than its diameter Blade longer than flagellum.
		・Antenna ; segment 5 very short. ・Mandible: inner teeth 4. seta interna short. seta subdentalis absent(？）・Both SⅠand SⅡbifid. 　Pecten epipharyngis 3 scales. ・Premandible with 2 well developed apical teeth ・Claws of posterior parapod , 13 ,strongly devrloped. ・Procercus absent, but with anal 2 setae . ・2 pairs anal tubules seem to exist under segment 12.
